Video: Trump’s Claim of FBI ‘Turmoil’

In this week’s video, CNN’s Jake Tapper and FactCheck.org examine statements made by President Donald Trump and his deputy press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, about morale at the FBI.

In an interview with NBC’s Lester Holt, Trump discussed his decision to fire FBI Director James Comey. Trump told Holt the FBI “has been in turmoil.” Sanders said “the rank and file of the FBI had lost confidence in their director.”

FBI officials — including the man who replaced Comey — dispute that. Andrew McCabe — a 21-year FBI official who assumed the position of acting FBI director when Comey was fired — was asked about Sanders’ remark at a May 11 hearing of the Senate intelligence committee. “No, sir, that is not accurate,” he said.

“I can confidently tell you that the majority — the vast majority of FBI employees enjoyed a deep and positive connection to Director Comey,” McCabe said.
